The AHC20122 Certificate II in Agriculture describes the skills and knowledge for general job roles in rural and regional Australia, and supporting job roles in agriculture including livestock production, cropping or in the case of mixed farming workplaces, both cropping and livestock.

This certificate reflects the role of new agricultural workers or farm hands. Workers will undertake routine tasks under supervision.

Your training will focus on: 

  • How to participate in sustainable practices
  • How to participate in health and safety processes
  • How to work effectively in the chosen stream of agriculture, could include:
    • Operating machinery
    • Working with livestock
    • Install and maintain fencing

AST auspices this qualification to secondary schools so their teachers can deliver it to secondary school students as part of their VET studies.

Job roles vary across different industry sectors and may include:

  • Assistant animal attendant/stock person
  • Assistant farm or station hand/worker/labourer
  • Assistant farm fencing contractor
  • Farm machinery worker
  • Jillaroo/Jackaroo
  • Saleyard livestock worker

Assessment may consist of

  • written answers to questions
  • role plays
  • holistic assessment

Evidence may be 

  • written 
  • audio recordings
  • video recordings
  • observation
  • Zoom recording
  • interview
  • documents

All students will engage in a language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) activity to evaluate potential support requirements.

The AHC20122 Certificate II in Agriculture consists of 16 units:

  • 4 core units
  • 12 elective units

Elective units will vary depending on consultation with industry.

Core units include:

AHCWHS202 Participate in workplace health and safety processes
AHCWRK211 Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices
AHCWRK212 Work effectively in the industry
AHCWRK213 Participate in workplace communications

 

This qualification is offered to secondary schools on a fee-for-service basis, where a fee is charged for each individual student’s enrolment.

Part-time (1-2 days a week) for 12 months
