Overview

The AHC20422 Certificate II in Horticulture will deliver entry-level practical skills and knowledge in understanding and caring for a variety of plants, trees and shrubs, the characteristics of different types of flora and how to recognise and treat plant pests and diseases.

This certificate reflects the role of new horticultural workers or nursery assistants. Workers will undertake routine tasks under supervision.

Your training will focus on:

How to recognise a variety of plants
How to operate basic machinery and equipment
Recognising weeds and how to treat them
Understanding soil properties
Understanding environmentally sustainable work practices

Delivery mode

AST auspices this qualification to secondary schools so their teachers can deliver it to secondary school students as part of their VET studies.

Entry Requirements

All students will engage in a language, literacy, numeracy and digital literacy (LLND) activity to evaluate potential support requirements.

The AHC20422 Certificate II in Horticulture consists of 15 units:

8 core units
7 elective units

Elective units will vary depending on consultation with industry.

AHCPMG201	Treat weeds
AHCPMG202	Treat plant pests, diseases and disorders

AHCWHS202	Participate in workplace health and safety processes
AHCWRK211	Participate in environmentally sustainable work practices

Fees

This qualification is offered to secondary schools on a fee-for-service basis, where a fee is charged for each individual student’s enrolment.
